PARENT VISAS


 
If you are wanting to join your Australian citizen or permanent resident child or eligible New Zealand citizen in Australia, there are various parent Visa options available.
 
All parent visas are at present subject to the “balance of family “ requirement.

Parent Visa

(subclass 103)

You would have to apply outside Australia, if you meet the balance of family test as well as health and character requirements and have a sponsor. This Visa takes up to 30 years to process. 


Aged parent Visa

(subclass 804)

You can apply for this Visa inside Australia, if you meet age requirements balance of family test as well as health and character requirements, and have a sponsor. This Visa can take up to 30 years to process.


Contributory parent temporary Visa

(subclass 173)

You would need to apply outside Australia, meet the balance of family test as well as health and character requirements. This is a more expensive Visa due to faster processing times. 


Contributory parent permanentVisa

(subclass 143)

You can be inside or outside Australia when applying for this Visa. You need to meet the balance of family test, have an assurance of support, meet health and character requirements and have a sponsor. If you already hold a subclass 173 Visa and would want to stay in Australia permanently, you can apply for this subclass 143 Visa before the expiry of your temporary Visa .


Contributory Aged parent temporary Visa

(subclass 884)

You can apply for this Visa in Australia, meet the age requirements, meet the balance of family test and have a sponsor. You have an eligible child living in Australia and you want to live here for up to 2 years is a temporary resident. You would need to pay a higher Visa application charge for faster processing.


Contributory aged parent permanent Visa

(subclass 864)

You would be applying for this Visa in Australia. As with the subclass 884 Visa you would have to meet age requirements, balance of family test. You need to meet various conditions including age requirements balance of family test health and character requirements, have an assurance of support as well as a sponsor.  If you already hold a Contributory capped aged Parent Visa (subclass 884) and want to stay permanently in Australia, you can apply for this Visa before your temporary Visa expires.
